Geothermal solutions in shallow and deep geothermal
Policymakers and investors are taking increasing notice of the once-niche geothermal energy sector as part of a broader rethink of our energy system and our fight against climate change. Geothermal energy provides a renewable energy source for various industries and supports local development. With so many different applications and vast untapped potential, geothermal energy is bound to become the bedrock of energy transition.
Hungary, located in the geothermal-rich Pannonian Basin, sits on a potentially low-cost, clean alternative to fossil fuels. Building up geothermal capacity in Hungary would help to create a stable, clean and local energy resource and contribute to phasing out fossil fuels this way supporting Hungary’s energy independence and national climate ambitions.
The Budapest Geothermal Energy Summit aims to support the uptake of the geothermal energy sector by creating a platform to discuss and understand the applications of this technology.
Discover the unique geothermal potential of the Pannonian Basin, Central Europe!
The first Budapest Geothermal Energy Summit was organised in 2023 and brought together policymakers, industry experts, corporate leaders, technology pioneers and sustainable leaders from the region and beyond to discuss the potential of geothermal energy.
Building on the success of the first event and the high public interest in geothermal energy, we will organise the Budapest Geothermal Energy Summit in 2024 again, on 20 September. Stakeholders will discuss the main opportunities and challenges of geothermal energy, sharing their views on the current state of knowledge and technology and presenting why more attention should be given to the utilisation of geothermal energy in Hungary and the wider region.
Organized under the honorary patronage of H.E. Csaba Lantos, Minister of Energy of Hungary, who will open the event
Geothermal solutions in shallow and deep geothermal
Overview of the development of the global and regional geothermal market
Regulatory challenges of geothermal development
Geothermal power generation
Financing opportunities, European funding for geothermal projects
Low carbon heating and cooling for sustainable buildings, feasibility and implementation
Technical trends in shallow and deep geothermal
Leveraging oil and gas experiences to accelerate geothermal exploration and development
