Maria Mutti is Professor and Chair of Sedimentary Geology at the University of Potsdam (Germany). She previously held research positions at ETH Zürich, Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, where she helped run the Integrated Ocean Drilling Program, and a faculty position at USC in Los Angeles. Her research interests focus on carbonate systems in relation to Earth History as well as to surface and subsurface multi-scale basin analysis studies as applied to carbonate reservoirs. She has acted as a consultant and trainer for many international energy companies for the last two and a half decades. She has served as President for SEPM and from July 2023 she will be President of AAPG Europe, where she will focus on the role of geosciences in the energy transition.
